The world’s largest search engine Google has now launched a new website that shows almost everything it knows about its users, and mind you it knows an awful lot.
The firm has rolled out 'My Activity, the feature comes as a move to increases the transparency around which data is used for advertising purposes.
And why is that because Google in layman term is a sort of advertising company, which makes money by targeting ads, which it thinks are of interest to the user.
And for this it requires user data, one may ask from where does Google amass all this data? Well, through Google search, Chrome browser, Gmail, Google+, Google News, YouTube, Translation, Maps, and the list continues.
Coming back to the My Activity tool, Google latest tool shows a searchable history of the websites you visit, nothing new you may say, but there is more to it, the YouTube clips you watch and the locations you travel to, The International Business Times reported.
"My Activity is a central place to view and manage activity like searches you've done, websites you've visited, and videos you've watched," Google says on its support page. "Your activity is listed as individual items, starting with the most recent. These items might be part of bundles, which group similar activity together."
The feature gives the user greater control over how advertising data is positioned across your various devices, it also enables to block some ads user don't want to see. Lastly, it also has a delete option for users to get rid of their history.
The Independent reported, Google has rolled out this feature but it does not go automatic. The site asks people instead to turn it on, it encourages people to do, as it seeks to make adverting more helpful and shutting down any ads that people just don’t want to see.
