Microsoft Surface Phone vs Apple iPhone 8: The Battle Begins

Rumors suggest that tech giants, Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), are working on their completely new and innovative flagship smartphone models for 2017. Microsoft is developing the Surface Phone, while Apple is readying the iPhone 8 to celebrate the iPhone’s 10-year anniversary in 2017.
According to reports, the Surface Phone is expected to be a tough competitor for the iPhone and Android devices. A comparison between the specs of the iPhone 7 and the rumored specs of the Surface Phone puts the Surface Phone miles ahead of the iPhone 7. Let’s take a look the rumored specs of both Surface Phone and iPhone 8.
Apple iPhone 8

Apple is expected to reveal the iPhone 8 on the iPhone’s 10-year anniversary in 2017. Hopes are high for the iPhone 8, which is rumored to have a radical redesign, with an edge-to-edge display.
The iPhone 8 will get a 10-nanometer A11 chip that will be both faster and more efficient. Reports also claim that the device will equipped with an OLED screen, long-range wireless charging and an all-glass body. The phone, according to observers, may come with virtual and augmented reality technology.
Sources – ranging from Apple’s supply to a number of top analysts – claim that the iPhone 8 will feature an OLED screen. The OLED offers a bit more durability and is more flexible than LCD displays. In addition to reducing chance of scratches and screen cracks, OLED also provides better color contrasts for deeper and darker shades and more vibrant bright colors.
The iPhone 8 is reportedly get a wireless charging capability, and Microsoft is at work to make long-distance wireless charging a reality. Moreover, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) planning to equip the iPhone 8 with an iris scanner.
A report in Bloomberg News said that company may kill the iPhone’s iconic home button in 2017. According to the report, the company wants to replace the button with fingerprint sensors that would be built into the screen.
The iPhone 8 is expected to make a debut in the fall of 2017.
Microsoft Surface Phone
Microsoft is set to unveil the Surface Phone early next year, reports suggest. The new device would be a high-end smartphone for enterprise. Microsoft is working hard to make it the most secure phone in the world.
Reports also indicate that the Surface Phone will include a 20 megapixel rear camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. The smartphone is rumored to get an 8GB RAM and a Kaby Lake processor. The device may feature a Windows 10 Redstone operating system and Snapdragon 821 SoC.
The rumor mill is also saying that the Surface Phone will come with a unique fingerprint sensor. A patent filed by the company shows a scanner integrated on the smartphone’s display, contrary to fingerprint sensors on the home button or the rear of the handset in most smartphones.
The most exciting feature that Surface Phone is rumored to get is a support to Win32 apps. The phone will offer support to Win32 apps that might give a compelling reason to iOS and Android users to switch to a Windows Mobile. As we reported earlier, the availability of Win32 apps on the Surface Phone will allow the device to run legacy Windows program that people run on their PCs. If this is true and Microsoft makes the Surface Phone to run Win32 apps, the Surface Phone could get an edge over iPhone and Android devices.
Rumors also suggest that the smartphone will get a 5.7-inch touchscreen with 2K resolution. The device will be powered by a Snapdragon 830 processor.
Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)  hasn’t made any official announcement yet regarding the Surface Phone, but reports suggest that the device arrive in March 2017.
